Crewelwork Jacqui MacDonald - The aim is not to give you designs to copy and follow, but to show you how to perfect the stitches and provide examples of how these stitches can be used within your own designs. Goldwork By Helen McCook - Metal thread work is such an intriguing part of embroidery for many reasons, but perhaps part of its allure is the glamour that it evokes with all its embedded associations in our psyche and across so many differing cultural, political and religious backgrounds.

Please try again later. Terrific Book to learn how to embroider separated by chapters on different embroidery techniqes. While you can see in this heavily illustrated book how to do the minimal stitches that type of embroidery calls for, the actual projects shown are of a higher quality and shown using careful stitching to make beautiful projects, not whimsicle ones.
Although the few stitches used in whimsicle designs are taught in this book. I have never had any books published by way of the Royal School of Needlework, but I had been wanting to see one. In this book you get a lot of their smaller books in one. So read the product description carefully to see if you already own all the smaller books as I am not sure how much in the way of new material was added to this book.
One of the things that impressed me was something that other embroidery books barely spend time on, this book makes sure it is covered in full, including, for instance, how to set up for embroidery frame or hoop properly to avoid stitching that is being twisted and distorted. After the stitching is complete, if you are taking it to a finisher it will be properly ready for its frame and will look great.
The same if you are framing it yourself, you use the same techniques to finish your work of art. Your will see examples for every stitching technique and the most used stitches for that techniqueas well as supplementary stitches for making exquisite pieces of art. While there are some projects in the book, it is not a project book per se.
It is an instructional book so that you can do any project that you want to. Do you need this book if you already have a reference book or two to all the stitches? I have found that every large reference work has loads of great information, yet I have never found that they all have each and every stitch and each of the books has a bit different focus. If you can only afford one book, this one would be a terrific one as a reference. This is the best book out there for explaining the history and techniques of all kinds of embroidery.
Here is an additional project for high school students to detect the water level within a water tank or any other water reservoir. Each aspect of using a sewing machine is clearly explained and accompanied by a photo. I especially appreciated the suggestions given by the book about what things to consider when purchasing a machine for a child to use.
I have no doubt that we will continue to refer to the book in the future. However, we will likely be reviewing the "sewing machine instruction" pages rather than the creative projects. This is a fantastic book! I purchased for my granddaughter to use with her new sewing machine. BTW, when my second granddaughter received a sewing machine, I made sure she received this book as well.
The book is well designed with each lesson building on the previous. This is the perfect addition for anyone giving a sewing machine or with a child who just received a sewing machine. Wonderful way to learn about your sewing machine, develop basic sewing skills, make fun and useful things, and have fun at the same time. This is a must have! My 8 year old daughter was really excited about her new sewing machine and this book was a great companion!
It also took some stress off of me. She sat down and read the beginning and was very anxious to start. She loves to read about the different ideas and we would definitely recommend this book ;.
